If you have a website on a platform like WordPress, Wix, or even a custom website, the HTML to Framer extension will help you migrate to Framer.

You can copy and paste each part of your existing website into the Framer interface by simply clicking and pasting.

How does the tool HTML to Framer work?

HTML to Framer tool is a Google Chrome extension that lets you copy sections of your website to Framer.

First, download and activate the HTML to Framer Chrome extension.

When the extension is active, you can click on small elements like buttons, text, and images to larger elements like layouts and heroes.

Tip: You have to activate the extension by clicking on it. When the extension is black, it is disabled; when it is blue, it is enabled.

Does it work as intended?

The extension itself is quite easy to work with, and it has worked as expected for my testing.

You get a little box to the bottom right, which provides information about hotkeys, such as copy element, copy multiple elements, and select parent.

When you click on the element you want to copy, a little popup shows how many elements have been copied.

Next, we must head to the Framer interface and paste in the element.

In the short demonstration below, you can see how easy it is.

Tips and tricks when using the extension

  • This extension is best for copying your layout to a Framer template. When it is copied to Framer, we need to modify it quite a bit to get it responsive, create breakpoints for different devices, and make all elements fit correctly.
  • Hold shift to copy multiple layouts. You can be more efficient if you import multiple layouts. But be aware that it can be messy for many layouts at once.
  • Be ready to modify it in the Framers interface. Width and grids are tricky to get correct by just copying. So, always check how styles are before going public.
  • Elements are copied as single, standalone elements. When resizing the copied element, we must put the copied element into a new Frame. The extension doesn’t create new frames, so this is manual. The images below demonstrate this.

The HTML to Framer isn’t perfect, but it does the heavy lifting for us. And with a lot of modifying in the Framer interface, it is quite handy.
